SILENT HILL: Townfall PC Issues — Official Patch & DLC Status
Townfall PC help for startup failures, crashes, stutter and missing DLC, with official patch status, version checks and file verification steps. Updated October 4.

| Game will not start or exits before the menu | Startup checks | General Steam troubleshooting |
| Game closes during play | Crash checks | General troubleshooting; cause not established |
| Game runs but hitches or slows down | Stutter and performance | Patch 1.3.1 released; verify menu version |
| Save files are missing or Steam shows a cloud conflict | Save folder and backup | Reported Windows path and Valve cloud guidance |
| Pre-order or Deluxe extras are missing | DLC unlock procedure | Publisher-confirmed resolved issue |
What is the current official PC issue status?
Last checked: 4 October 2026, via the official Steam announcement feed. These are Steam-version notices. Their status does not by itself establish a PS5 fix.
| Issue | Notice published (UTC) | Official status | Released version / date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam performance | 24 Sep, 01:15 | Update being prepared | Superseded by the release below |
| Steam performance patch 1.3.1 | 30 Sep, 08:37 | Released | v1.4.153829 (check the main menu) |
| Some pre-order / Deluxe content not unlocking | 24 Sep, 07:27 | Resolved; restart procedure supplied | No patch version stated |
The Patch 1.3.1 announcement states the update “reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation issues” and asks players to confirm the main-menu version. It promises no frame-rate gain or benchmark. Screen Burn’s announcement post, as reported by VGC, says the same PC patch also reached the Epic Games Store version and promises further performance work; this page’s checks are based on the Steam notice. The separate DLC fix is not evidence that performance is fixed.
Startup failure: what can I check safely?
First compare your operating system, memory and graphics hardware with the official PC requirements. Note whether the game reaches a logo, the menu or an error message; those are different failure points.
For a Steam installation, Valve’s general file-check procedure is:
- Restart the computer, then open Steam.
- In your Library, right-click the game (or use its gear icon), then choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
- Let the check finish before trying the game again. Do not run several game verifications at once.
Valve documents this check for missing content and crashes. It checks the installation; it is not a confirmed Townfall startup fix. A local configuration file can fail verification without indicating a broken installation, according to Valve.
Crashes during play: record what repeats
Use the Steam file check above if applicable. If the crash returns, record the chapter, location and action immediately before it, plus any error text. Keep an existing manual save; do not delete your progress as a troubleshooting step. For an ordinary run, review phone saving before retrying. For Windows / Steam, make a separate file backup before changing local data. A Reject The Help challenge has a different saving restriction.
Players have reported crashes and stutter, but this is community reporting, not a diagnosis or a measured failure rate. The official performance notice does not identify every crash cause.
Stutter or low frame rate: has the patch arrived?
Yes. Patch 1.3.1 was released on 30 September 2026 for the Steam version. The official notice asks you to check the version number in the lower right corner of the main menu: it should read v1.4.153829. If your build is older, restart the Steam client so the download can begin, then run the file check above if the update fails to install.
The requirements page lists publisher targets and their upscaling conditions. Those targets are not our benchmarks. If you compare settings yourself, use the same location and change one option at a time so the comparison is meaningful. This is a diagnostic method, not a tested best-settings preset.
New performance discussion: Digital Foundry, 28 September
DF Direct Weekly #283 lists a Townfall test discussion at 17:26, covering PS5, PS5 Pro and PC. Use that chapter for further listening. A published review is not a patch release notice, and this page does not turn the episode listing into an FPS table.
When comparing a review with your machine, keep three things separate:
| Reference | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Publisher PC requirements | Check the hardware and upscaling conditions behind the stated target. |
| Console testing | Match the console model and mode; it cannot predict your PC’s performance. |
| A PC result or your own test | Record GPU, CPU, resolution, upscaling, settings, driver and game version before comparing. |
For your own comparison, repeat the same short route and note both sustained slowdown and isolated hitches. Change one option at a time. Keep the original settings available so you can undo a change that does not help. These are comparison steps, not a Townfall performance fix validated by this site.
Missing pre-order or Deluxe content
The DLC entitlement notice is marked resolved. For affected players who already started the game, the official sequence is exit the game → ensure an internet connection → restart Steam. The edition-content guide separates these bonuses from unlocks earned through play.
This sequence addresses the stated DLC entitlement issue. It is not a performance workaround and does not require deleting a save.
What should I include in a support request?
Use the appropriate region on KONAMI’s support page. To make a report reproducible, prepare your store/platform, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, graphics-driver version, the displayed game version if available, error text and the shortest sequence that triggers the problem. Mention whether Steam file verification changed the result. This is our reporting checklist, not a list of extra publisher requirements.
Status changes on this page identify the official release notice, its platform, date and stated changes — as done above for Patch 1.3.1. No patch number or performance gain will be inferred from a download alone.
