SILENT HILL: Townfall Healing & Crafting Guide

How healing and crafting work: Gauze and Sterilized Gauze, Simon's IV Bag self-revive line, material timing by chapter, and the From Scratch counter.

Attempting Save It For The Patients? During Zoe’s two chapters, leave healing consumables unused. Required patient-treatment equipment has a different role.

    How healing works

Healing is consumable-based: you carry healing items and use them from the inventory. The basic item is Gauze, which heals a small amount of health; the crafted version below heals more. There is no passive regeneration to wait for — what you stockpile is what you have.

Everything on this page is a fictional in-game item system. Nothing here is medical advice.

    Materials and recipes

    Recipe Result What it does
    — (pickup) Gauze Small heal
Gauze + Alcohol Sterilized Gauze Heals more than plain Gauze
Empty IV Bag + IV Fluid Filled IV Bag Equip it for Simon’s one-use self-revive
Filled IV Bag + Antibiotics Enhanced IV Bag Equip it for a full-health revive on a fatal hit

The IV Bag line — Simon’s safety net

The IV Bags behave differently from gauze: a Filled IV Bag must be equipped for its automatic self-revive to work. If Simon takes a fatal hit while it is equipped, it is consumed and brings him back with some health. A filled bag merely sitting in the inventory is not an active safety net. The Enhanced version likewise needs to be equipped and fully refills his health on the revive.

How do you activate an IV Bag?

    1. In Simon’s inventory, combine an Empty IV Bag with IV Fluid to create a Filled IV Bag. Add Antibiotics first if you want the Enhanced version and have the materials.
    2. Select the filled or enhanced bag in the inventory and equip it. Crafting alone does not activate the revive.
    3. After it saves you from a fatal hit, treat it as spent: prepare and equip another filled bag before relying on a second revive.

    Two practical consequences:

    • IV Bags are Simon-only — Zoe and Richard get no self-revive safety net and should lean on Sterilized Gauze instead.
    • If you expected a revive and got a game over, check whether the bag was filled and equipped. An unused Enhanced bag in the inventory cannot protect Simon by itself.

    Availability and progress

    • Alcohol — scarce during the initial Simon chapters, then found frequently after the first Zoe section (all characters), so Sterilized Gauze crafting effectively opens up from mid-Part 1 onward.
    • IV Fluid — obtainable from the first part of the game while playing as Simon, so the self-revive line is buildable early.
    • Antibiotics — appear starting in the second half of the game; the Enhanced upgrade is a late-game improvement, not a day-one option.
    • Gauze itself sits in first-aid kits, bathroom cabinets and shelves across the town (MapMaster’s tracking guide catalogs the pickups — we link it rather than copying the list).

None of these are drop-rate systems: pickups are placed, not rolled, and we do not publish spawn percentages because none exist in the sources we read.

From Scratch — the crafting trophy

From Scratch asks for 20 crafted items, counted across playthroughs. This cumulative trophy counter is separate from the equipment reset in New Game Plus. The roadmap’s arithmetic is blunt: a handful of crafts are story-required, and the rest will mostly be Sterilized Gauze (all characters) and IV Bags (Simon) because those recipes are cheap and the inputs respawn in your path. Crafting is also strictly beneficial — every extra Sterilized Gauze is healing you will eventually use anyway. The trophy is mapped on the trophies hub with this page as its host.

How this differs from the Infusion puzzle

The Infusion puzzle is a one-time story puzzle in the Medical Center: three named medicines (Tensobromide, Dextracyclate, Hydroxalene) placed in pumps at fixed rates for the 88 kg patient. It shares a hospital costume with the crafting system and nothing else — no crafted item, recipe or healing amount on this page participates in that puzzle, and solving it does not change your crafting options. If you are looking for the pump settings, use the puzzle page; if you are stocking up for the ward, this is the page.

    What this page rests on

Recipes, effects, character restrictions and material timing come from PowerPyx’s roadmap (read in full, 2026-09-24) with MapMaster’s Gauze guide corroborating the base item. Fangoria’s release review and How To Video Game’s equipment guide (checked 2026-09-27) support the crucial distinction between carrying and equipping a filled bag. This remains source_checked: no crafting or fatal-hit test was performed by this site. Qualitative effect wording (“small amount”, “heals more”, “fully refills”) is quoted as the sources state it; no numeric heal values have been published by any source we verified, so none appear here.
